read more10% of all electricity generated worldwide is lost through control, conversion and switching of electrical power. Power semiconductors play a key role in the efficient conversion and switching of energy in a wide range of applications, from smart grids to electric and hybrid cars, from industrial process control to consumer electronics and lighting. Today these power semiconductors are 99% silicon but utilising silicon carbide (SiC) instead enable systems to be more efficient, smaller and lighter. However SiC is currently 10 times the price of its silicon equivalent.
Anvil Semiconductors is commercialising its unique proprietary technology which promises to deliver the advantages of SiC devices for the cost of conventional silicon ones, potentially revolutionising the power electronics industry.
